SEO Process and How It Evolved Over The Time

Hey Folks, After TechTricskWorld and 2012onwards we have started this brand new Site Stoogles.com with few goals.

Any way we will be sharing lots of updates of social media, SEO tips and many more tech & gadget tips and news. However I want to start my postings on Stoogles with my favourite topic SEO which stands for Search Engine Optimization. I am going to share whole SEO process step wise on Stoogles.com

Why Its my favorite topic?

Simple reason is that I do work as SEO Analyst in a Private firm and I love to research new ideas of SEOs. Apart from SEO, Blogging is my second most favourite topic so you will be reading many posts on these topics from me.

In the SEO field, there is just one teacher who taught me everything and that is Sir Mattcutts. His webmaster videos and his blog helped me in learning the basics to advanced SEO techniques. Later I started reading SEOBOOK, SEOMOZ. Reacently I completed reading a book “Search Engine Optimization Secrets” by dannyDover who had been worked with SEOMOZ. I learned a lot of of new things from this book.

Lets start with the introduction of SEO and how it evolved with time:-

Search Engine Optimization is the process which we used to make a sit evisible in search engines. In short, whatever we do to make a site rank well in search engines is called SEO.
Search Engine optimization

SEO has been changed a lot with the time. In the infancy its very easy to rank well in SERPs by building thousands of backlinks by the process of link building. But now days link building is not so effective alone. We have to consider a lot of things to rank well in SERPs.

SEO was started in mid-1990.  But the according Danny Sullivan the word Search engine optimization came into use in 1997.

In the early days SEs cared about meta tags such as title, description and keyword but as the people’s understanding about SEs enhances they started using techniques which are not good for readers. I mean they started using inappropriate keywords in the Meta tags to rank well however they were completely not related to that page’s content.

Site owners started scraping other’s content and pasting on their own site and the peculiar thing is that most of the times the content scraper’s site get good rank than the site from where they copied the content

Also as the backlink was too important to get good rankings in SEs, people started creating link farms and all in which they started doing link spam to get more backlinks for their site and get rankings. These kind of links referred to as Unnatural link.

These kind of Optimization techniques degraded the user experiences, They get results which are not related to what they are searching. For these reasons Google later stopped indexingMetakeywords. For now only the Yahoo indexesMetakeywords but Google and Bing doesn’t.

Lately Google as the most used search engine started its work towards the better user experience in search results and hence It announced the Panda update which is called Google Panda in February 2011. It is a search algorithm of Google that intends to fight against the content scrapers.

According to Google Panda if any website found to be copying or spinning the content then it will be penalized which leads to either de-ranking in Google or completely vanish from the SERP.

Panda has slapped hard to many big sites because of their low quality content. With the Panda Google gave the signal to the site owners to focus more on the quality of content.

According to Google Panda Content Must not be:-

  1. Copied.
  2. Spinned.
  3. Stuffed with keywords.

Now Panda’s new version keep on releasing time by time and hit the low quality pages.

Later Google rolled out another algorithm which is called Penguin. It has been released to fight against the webspam.

As I mentioned that people started link spamming by the means of link wheels, link pyramid, anchor tag spamming, hidden text on the pages. If you are doing these then Penguin is ready to hit you.

I will be covering Google Panda and Penguin in detail in upcoming posts on Stoogles.com.

Now lets talk about How we do SEO?

There are two kind of SEO:-

  1. Onsite SEO or On page SEO.
  2. Offsite SEO or Off Page SEO.

On Page SEO:- It involves the things we do on the site to optimize such as:-

  1. Keyword research
  2. Writing title tags.
  3. WritingMetatags.
  4. Writing SEO optimized Content/ Content optimization.
  5. Internal linking.
  6. Url Optimization.
  7. uses of H1 and H2 tags.
  8. Image Optimization by adding Alt texts.
  9. Sitemap creation and submission into webmaster tools.
  10. Generating robots.txt.

Off Page SEO:- It involves the things which we do on other sites to promote and building backlinks for the website we optimize, such as:-

  1. Directory submissions.
  2. Article submissions.
  3. RSS submissions.
  4. Press release.
  5. Micro blogging.
  6. Blog commenting.
  7. Social Networking.
  8. Guest Blogging.
  9. Forum Postings.
  10. Social Bookmarking.
  11. Link Exchange.

These are the traditional SEO strategies which SEOs used to perform but the SEO in the present scenario has been changed a lot. Now directory submissions and article submissions don’t hold the value what they had in the past but still these are used and its working but while doing it we need to be very careful and should select only those sites which has good PR and good rankings in Google.

I think I missed the “PR” which stands for Page Rank. Google reward every web page with PR out of 10. Such as Facebook’s PR is 9 which is too good. PR depends on the website’s backlink profile, Freshness & uniqueness of content, site’s bounce rates and many other factors.

What I have mentioned in this post is just a summary of the SEO. I will be exploring each and every points in detail in the upcoming posts. Till then Stay tuned on Stoogles.
